Thanks for this blog.

I have had the same problem with the recent MSS 2007 upgrade with 1and1.co.uk. The guys at 1and1 accelarated my case up to a technician but I still await a response after 48 hours.

I had read that this might be a prpblem for people using BT lines and something to do with recognition of the servers and flushing your DNS (I'm not really a techie) and certainly a colleague of mine based in the States whose mailbox is on one of the problem servers doesn't appear to be having the same authentication problem as us in the UK using BT lines.

However the good news is that I came across a solution. It's quite simple and even though it might not be the ultimate solution to our woes I am surprised why 1and1 staff haven't been made aware of it as I am sure we are not the only ones with the problem.

So here we go:

Click Start > Control Panel > Mail > Email Accounts

* Click the Microsoft Exchange Server Set-up

* Click on More Settings

* Go to Connection tab

* Change the proxy server settings from exchange.1and1.co.uk to exchange.1and1.com

and from

msstd:exchange.1and1.co.uk to msstd:exchange.1and1.com

*Apply the changes and save it

*Launch Microsoft Outlook again

And hey presto no more repeated authentication windows and a synchronised mailbox after almost five days of living off OWA and POP.

Hi Matt,
Yeah, it's blinking annoying tbh. I think it's all to do with this ellusive update to Exchange Server 2007. They sent out an email a week ago or so explaining that stuff would stop working for a bit while they migrated over to this bulkier piece of software... which really isn't going to do anything more than 2003 is doing already. In fact many mobile users will be getting quite pissed off over the next week or so as they find out they have a phone which won't talk to the shiny new software.
I have found over the last 6 months or so that the outlook authentication process has slowed down quite considerably. I never neally knew if it was my connection, by pooter, or 1and1 farting around. I now know where to point the blame!
It's going to be a case of holding on to our seats as our world falls down around us. I for one will be really pissed off if they lose my contacts and calandar in the process, and am making a local 'pst' copy for good measure.

Exactly the same thing happened to me last night. Tried "going back" and removing the exchange\ - but no joy.

Worth a call to 1&1 so at least they log-it? Strange - how the Outlook on Windows is working fine - is it all down to authentication of the iPhone?

Thanks!

Ok, it appears that the iPhone connectivity has died again. As of about 11pm on the 8th September my iPhone 3G stopped syncing with my outlook exchange account held at 1and1.co.uk. I've tried all the itterations again, and no joy. Just gonna have to wait I guess. This is a blinking pain in the proverbal. GET IT SORTED 1AND1!

I have now been without email for 4 days solid. My iPhone (irronically) is the only device which still appears to login and authenticate... and sync with my exchange server. I sent a support message to 1and1.co.uk, and they replied saying there was no estimate time to fix the problem. There had better be some form of compensation, or else I shall be mosving somewhere new and fresh!
